Established in 2005 and the first Slow Food convivium or group in Romania, our activities now focus on Courtyard Dining where seasonal local ingredients are cooked as for the family. We hold our events monthly on the third Saturday of each month. Seasonal food is served and we aim to promote some of the great Romanian wines now available. Dinner costs Ron50 per person plus the cost of the wine consumed. Numbers are limited to around twelve people so booking in advance is essential. For further information visit the SFTM Facebook page.

PASTURE-FED LIVESTOCK ASSOCIATION (PFLA)
The Food Development Company has joined the Pasture Fed Livestock Association (PFLA). Grassland forms such an important part of the British countryside and the pioneering work by PFLA in the UK is hugely relevant to the future survival of the wild flower rich meadows of the Tarnava Mare area of Transylvania. It is an iconic symbol of rural landscapes and we naturally think of it as being the principal food for cows, sheep and all other animals that graze our fields. PFLA was formed in order to champion the virtues of pasture and to provide a distinct identity for livestock systems that are based purely and simply upon pasture. Why “Pasture” rather than just “grassland”? Well that is because the diversity of plant species such as herbs and clovers that are found in well-established fields play a subtle but essential role in the nutrition of livestock and also in supporting a diverse range of complex wildlife networks. Plants such as chicory, for example, can help the digestion in ruminants and can significantly reduce the emission of methane, which is a gas linked to potentially harmful climate change.

The Food Development Company has decided to support this worthy cause by joining the UK Supporters’ Group. This narrow gauge railway used to run from Sibiu to Sighisoara and the track bed can still be seen on much of the Agnita-Sighisoara section. This railway served the communities along its length providing them with a means to get their produce to market and was very much part of the working landscape that we are dedicated to preserve.
